Knife crime is becoming a growing concern in many parts of the world. Yet despite this education about anti-cut blade resistant clothing which can help keep people safe has been virtually non-existent. The UK, as an example, has seen a significant rise in such incidents over the past few years. According to official government statistics, there were over 44,000 offences involving knives in England and Wales in 2019.
New fabric technology allows us, Bladerunner, to manufacture blade cut resistant clothing, including anti-slash gloves, that are almost indistinguishable from standard everyday clothing. Whilst this clothing is slash-resistant and blade-cut resistant it is not stab-proof but, on the other hand, it is wearable as ordinary street clothing which stab-resistant clothing is not.
While knife crime may seem like a new phenomenon, it is important to recognize that it has been a part of human history for thousands of years. However, the increase in knife crime can be attributed to a variety of factors, including socio-economic conditions, drugs, and gang culture.
The consequences of knife crime can be severe, with many victims suffering from physical and emotional scars for the rest of their lives. The repercussions of such acts also extend to the family and friends of the victims, and the wider society as a whole.
Should someone be unfortunate enough to be confronted by an assailant with a knife one of the best forms of self defence would be to try and escape by running, preferably into the nearest shop if possible. If it is not possible to escape then if you were able to grab the knife by the blade and either disarm the attacker or, at least, steer the blade away from your own body it would help to keep you safe. Our Spectra lined gloves or Kevlar lined gloves should enable someone to do this without suffering severe damage to their hands.
Preventing knife crime requires a multi-faceted approach. Some measures that can be taken include increased police presence, education on youth violence and knife crime, legal consequences for carrying knives, and community outreach programmes. It is also important for parents and guardians to have open conversations with their children about the dangers of knife crime and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.
Knife crime is not a problem we can solve overnight. It requires a long-term commitment from government, law enforcement agencies, and society as a whole. We must work together to prevent knife crime and ensure our communities are safe for all. It would be best to drastically reduce knife crime but until that happens Bladerunner anti-slash clothing can go a long way to keeping you safe.
